Public Art Commission wins major award

South Dublin County Council is delighted to announce that
Travelogue, a public art commission by Theresa Nanigian funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) in conjunction with South Dublin County Council, Dublin City Council, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and Fingal County Councils, has won a national Business to Arts Award. The Allianz Business to Arts Awards recognise businesses, artists and arts organisations that develop creative partnerships, bringing the arts and artists into mutually beneficial relationships.

The award - The Jim McNaughton Perpetual Award for Best Commissioning Practice - recognises the approach of the commissioners and their work with the Artist. Travelogue was also short listed for Best Creative Staff Engagement for the projects work with public transport providers.

In Travelogue, artist Theresa Nanigian created an intimate portrait of the lives of those who work and travel on the public transport network of the Greater Dublin Area. The stories that emerged from this eight-month investigation were heart-warming, poignant and often hilarious. Travelogue was quite simply a celebration of the wit and humanity of the people of Dublin as they travel around the capital city. It was displayed across the public transport system in the greater Dublin area during the first two weeks of May 2012 – as posters on trains, trams, buses and at stations and stops. It also included a website where the public could view the complete set of stories and mindmaps. This website has received almost 15,000 hits and will be live until 3rd October (www.travelogue.ie) .

Travelogue is a Per Cent for Art project commissioned by the National Transport Authority, Dublin City Council and South Dublin, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and Fingal County Councils. The commission involved an intimate working relationship between the artist, the NTA, and the Arts Offices in the four Local Authorities.
